Answer a few questions to benchmark your team's developer productivity using the SPACE framework.

Understanding SPACE Metrics

The SPACE framework is a holistic approach to measuring developer productivity created by researchers at GitHub, Microsoft, and the University of Victoria. It recognizes that productivity is multidimensional and cannot be captured by a single metric.
SPACE stands for Satisfaction, Performance, Activity, Communication, and Efficiency — five dimensions that together provide a comprehensive view of developer productivity.
Satisfaction
Measures how fulfilled developers are with their work, team, tools, and culture.
Performance
Assesses the outcomes of development work and their quality, responsiveness, and reliability.
Activity
Tracks the actions and outputs that developers generate while doing their work.
Communication
Evaluates how teams collaborate, share information, and coordinate their work.
Efficiency
Examines how well development teams deliver value with minimal waste or friction.
By measuring across all five dimensions, teams can gain a balanced understanding of their productivity and identify specific areas for improvement.
